Remittance of more than Tk 24,000 crore came in 3 weeks

The latest report by Bangladesh Bank reveals that during the first 21 days of December 2024, the country received remittances totaling USD 200.73 million, which is equivalent to more than Tk 24,000 crore (with the exchange rate at Tk 120 per dollar). This figure represents a daily average of approximately USD 9.55 million or Tk 1,145 crore.

Breaking down the sources of these remittances:

• State-owned banks received USD 61.31 million.
• Specialized banks saw remittances of USD 7.73 million.
• Private banks contributed USD 131.16 million.
• Foreign banks brought in USD 5.16 million.

For context, in the past few months:

• July saw USD 191.37 million.
• August saw USD 222.41 million.
• September recorded USD 240.48 million.
• October had USD 240 million.
• November saw USD 220 million in remittances.

The 2023-24 fiscal year ended with a total of USD 2,392 million (about Tk 2.82 lakh crore) in remittances, the second-highest in Bangladesh's history. The highest recorded amount was in the 2020-21 fiscal year, with USD 2,477 million.
